POLICE WRAPUP: Ticket swapping, OUI, deportation, and other incidents
Ticket swapping

Officer Corey Farina arrested a Quincy man for switching price tags on merchandise last Wednesday, police said.

Farina was dispatched to Kohl’s at 9:06 p.m. on March 4 where loss prevention had detained James J. Cadogan Jr., 65, of 2001 Marina Drive, Quincy. Cadogan was arrested and charged with shoplifting by ticket swapping.

Police said Cadogan had tried to put price tags from lower-priced items on other items and was discovered when he went through the checkout.

Deported

At 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (March 4), Officer Jeffrey Kilroy was monitoring traffic on Lincoln Street (Route 3A) when a white Chevrolet van with an expired inspection sticker passed by. Kilroy pulled behind the van and ran the plate in the computer that revealed the registered owner had a suspended license for payment default.

As it turned out the operator, Eduardo Ramos-Goncalves, 23, of 1986 Middlesex St., Lowell, who presented police with a counterfeit Brazilian license, was the registered owner’s brother. Kilroy entered Ramos-Goncalves’ information in the mobile data terminal that showed he was wanted on a warrant of deportation issued by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) that called for immediate deportation from the U.S., police said.

Ramos-Goncalves, who had been in the country for two years, was arrested and charged for operating without being licensed and for being a fugitive from justice. He was cited for operating a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker and with defective equipment (the windshield was cracked).

Police contacted ICE which came to the Hingham Police Station and took Ramos-Goncalves into custody for deportation from the U.S., police said.

Second OUI

Officer Robert Stockbridge was on patrol on Main Street at 12:19 a.m. on Wednesday (March 4) when he observed a black Ford pickup traveling north, passing vehicles in a no-passing zone near Cushing Street. Stockbridge reversed direction and caught up with the pickup truck near Mill Lane. He identified the operator as Gabriel J. Araujo, 37, of 486 Main St., Hingham. In speaking with Araujo, Stockbridge could detect the odor of alcohol on his breath and in the vehicle. He had glassy eyes and was unsteady on his feet. Police said Araujo refused to take field sobriety tests. But based on Stockbridge’s observations, Araujo was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (second offense) and he was cited for marked lanes violation.

False prescription

Officer John Walden was dispatched to Hingham Centre Pharmacy at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday (March 7) after the pharmacist notified police about a potentially fraudulent prescription that had been called in. The caller ordered a prescription for Ultram and provided the name of a person, who works at a dental office, and a DEA number (Drug Enforcement Agency). The caller also gave the name of the patient who would be picking it up. The pharmacist called the dentist’s office to verify and discovered the potential crime.

Lt. John Norkaitis, who was in plain clothes, waited at the pharmacy. Amanda Fitzsimmons, 26, of 36 Gilford Road, Hingham, arrived to pick up the prescription. She was arrested and charged with uttering a false prescription, police said.

License suspension

Sergeant Darren McAdams was at the Rotary at 6:19 p.m. on Sunday (March 8) when his attention was drawn to a Plymouth Voyager with a loud exhaust. He stopped the car on Rockland Street and ran the operator’s information through the cruiser’s mobile data terminal. The computer revealed that the operator, Kevin M. Keeley, 52, of 863 Dorchester Ave., Dorchester, had a suspended license for seven “surchargeable” events, police said. He was arrested and charged with operating after license suspension.

Revoked license

Jennifer E. Santosuosso, 32, of 230 Old Derby St., Hingham, was arrested on four warrants and for operating after her license had been revoked. Officer Scott Tracy spotted a brown Nissan Maxima weaving between lanes on Derby Street near the Derby Street Shoppes at 8:56 a.m. on Monday (March 9). He pulled the car over on Old Derby and ran the operator’s information through the mobile data terminal. Santosuosso was also cited for marked lanes violation.

Warrant

A 40-year-old Rhode Island man was arrested on warrants following a traffic stop at 10 a.m., Thursday (March 5). Officer Jeffrey Kilroy was monitoring traffic on Whiting Street by Accord Lane when his attention was drawn to a green Toyota Camry headed west on Whiting with duct tape on the rear-window vent on the driver’s side. The rear plate was also obscured, with the state and registration number not visible.

Kilroy pulled the car over and cleaned off the plate. He identified the operator as Helmer V. Dominguez, 40, of 181 High St., Cumberland, R.I. Officer Heather Mendes provided backup.

Kilroy ran a computer check on Dominguez that revealed he was wanted on a warrant out of Uxbridge District Court for motor vehicle violations. He was arrested on the warrant.

Erratic operation

A 29-year-old Quincy woman was charged with operating after license suspension and she was cited for marked lanes violation following a traffic stop at 5:05 p.m. on Friday (March 6). Officer Ryan O’Shea responded to a cell phone call about a black Jeep Liberty being operated erratically on Main Street; O’Shea caught up with the Jeep and pulled it over near East Street after observing it cross the centerline.

A computer check on the operator, Sarah A. Marotte, 29, of 43 Cummings Ave., Quincy, revealed her license had been suspended for payment default. She was also cited for marked lanes violation.

Citizens’ police academy registration

The Hingham Police Department will host its 29th Citizens Police Academy this year. Classes will be held every Wed. night at 6 p.m. for 10 weeks beginning April 1.

Members of the class will observe police operations, participate in a ride-along with a police officer, and receive instruction at a shooting range.

Why Do I Get a Headache During Sex?
Not tonight, honey. I ... don't wanna GET a headache?!?!?

When it comes to sex, "pulsating" feelings are usually a very good thing. But when pleasure turns to pain, pulsating is anything but erotic.

Meet the sex headache.

You've heard how endorphins released during sex can make you feel better, but science has actually confirmed a link between sexual activity and headaches, as well as migraines.

It’s called coital cephalgia ... in layman's terms, a sex headache.

This painful reaction to sex can last up to 24 hours, bringing a new — not to mention alarming — meaning to the not-tonight-I-have-a-headache excuse.

So, is this pain-in-the-head sex ever a cause for concern? Usually, it's harmless.

About one in 100 people will develop a sex headache at some point in his or her life, according to the Mayo Clinic. Men are at least three times as likely to get them.

These headaches are due to climax or becoming sexually aroused, whether from solo sex or sex with a partner, oral sex or intercourse.

The headaches, caused by exertion, can happen prior to sexual activity, during sex, during the orgasm or following the orgasm. They can also be situational specific: For example, a colleague of mine is treating a woman who experienced headaches primarily when she was on top. Ouch!

According to the book “Headache Management” by Joel Saper, these reactions present themselves in three different ways:

1. In approximately 70 percent of cases, a severe, throbbing or stabbing headache hits the individual suddenly, sometimes building for several minutes. It can last for hours.

2. In about 25 percent of cases, the headache starts before an orgasm, building in intensity as sexual excitement builds. This type is known to start in the back or sides of the head and is more of a dull ache.

3. The headache sits primarily in the lower back of the head and gets worse when you stand. It may involve feeling nauseous, to the point where the individual literally becomes ill.

For those affected, it isn’t uncommon for benign sex headaches to occur on a regular basis. To date, the best explanation is that the pain is due to muscle contraction and/or blood vessel dilation in the head and neck during intimacy.

People who are already prone to headaches tend to grapple with sex headaches more than others.

So ... when should you be concerned?

If you have a new, severe headache during sex — often described as among the worst ever — it may require immediate attention.

These headaches are often due to the rupture of an abnormal blood vessel, for example, an aneurysm, causing an acute brain hemorrhage or other serious condition. Since the heart rate and blood pressure are elevated, walls of abnormally weak blood vessels may burst or leak during sex.

If you start experiencing sex headaches out of nowhere, you should be evaluated by a physician immediately. You need to rule out any brain bleeding, with procedures like an MRI, CT scan or spinal tap. While brain bleeds make up only a small fraction of all headaches, this should be handled as an emergency situation. If not treated, they can result in disability or death.

One colleague’s client discovered that her sex headache would come on after having a few glasses of white wine and eating a large meal within two hours of sex, which she had lying down.

Other factors to consider include:

— Alcohol intake

— Food or non-alcoholic beverages consumed in the six hours prior to sex

— The size of a pre-coital meal

— Low blood sugar

— Birth control pills

— Marijuana intake

— Possible sinus infection

— Timing of sex: Does is only happen at night, or only in the morning?

— Lack of sleep

— Glaucoma

— Anemia

To combat the onset of these headaches, some people prefer to take medicine before sex. But some situations can be altered without having to resort to pills. Changing sexual positions (standing up instead of lying down, for example) may help.

For some couples, it helps to abstain from sex for a few days. The person with the headache may also find relief in being the passive sexual partner. As with most health problems, bringing your overall stress level down can help, as well.

In any event, consult your doctor, especially if the sex headaches become progressively worse. Sometimes the problem goes away on its own; sometimes the headaches go away, only to come back months later.
